SeliaScan privacy policy

From version 2.0.0, every document feature is available without ads or Premium purchases. This version includes no advertising, consent or Billing SDK and no donation link. The legacy advertising and purchase sections below apply only to older versions. Updating does not automatically cancel an existing Google Play subscription.

This policy covers the Google Play edition of SeliaScan, package com.majkeylab.scanit, and this policy page. Matěj Teplý, publishing as Majkey, maintains the app and handles support correspondence at majkeylab@gmail.com. Do not send private documents or credentials.

Information the app handles locally

SeliaScan handles pages you scan or import, generated PDFs, local saving preferences, language and appearance choices, selected folder access, and email subject or message defaults. This information provides scanning, saving, sharing, printing, and local cleanup functions.

Pages and PDFs are copied to app-private cache. The cache is bounded to at most eight scan directories and supplies Result and Recent scans. Android may clear it. Removing a Recent item removes that temporary working copy. When SeliaScan can verify an exact saved output that it created, the confirmation dialog can also delete the selected PDF, Gallery images, or both.

Saved images and PDFs remain in Gallery, Downloads, or a folder you choose until you delete them. Selecting a sharing app never deletes the saved copy. Uninstalling SeliaScan does not remove saved files outside app-private storage.

The editor stores one unfinished annotation draft in app-private storage, with a 4 MiB limit, to restore notes after interruption. Saving a copy or choosing Discard clears the matching draft. New edits can replace the previous draft. Clear app data or uninstall to remove all private drafts.

A cloud-backed folder provider, Gallery service, or backup service you configure may upload saved files under its own privacy terms. Disabling SeliaScan's Android backup does not disable those services or delete external copies. Manage those copies with the selected provider.

Settings remain in app-private storage. Android backup and device-to-device transfer are disabled for SeliaScan app data. Uninstalling removes private settings and cache. Reusable signature and stamp templates are stored separately in app-private storage excluded from Android backup. They remain until you delete the template, clear app data, or uninstall. Deleting a template does not erase marks already applied to saved or shared documents.

Google ML Kit and Play services

The scanner UI, models, and resources come through Google Play services. Google states that document-scanner input and output are processed on-device and are not sent to Google servers. Play services may contact Google to download or update scanner and recognition modules, models, bug fixes, or compatibility information.

Optional text extraction and QR/barcode detection run on-device. SeliaScan does not upload document content or recognition results to a maintainer-operated service. Extracted text is written only to a destination you select. Copied recognition results go to Android's clipboard with the sensitive-content flag.

Google states that ML Kit collects device and app information, device or installation identifiers, performance metrics, API configuration, input/output size, feature version, event types, and error codes for diagnostics and usage analytics. Google states that this telemetry is encrypted in transit using HTTPS and is not transferred to third parties. SeliaScan cannot disable or delete telemetry processed by Play services.

Cleanup, sharing, printing, and speech

Smart cleanup and Manual cleanup process pixels on-device. Manual cleanup reads a bounded area around a drawn loop and creates a reversible child revision. SeliaScan does not send cleanup input or output to a cloud AI service.

SeliaScan sends a PDF or image to another app or print service only after you choose a share or print action and recipient. The recipient processes the file under its own terms. Review the destination before sharing sensitive material.

Text extraction runs locally. Read all pages sends selected text to your Android text-to-speech engine only after you tap Play and confirm the disclosure. The engine or voice may process text online under its own settings and privacy terms. SeliaScan cannot guarantee offline processing by that engine. Do not confirm playback of sensitive text unless you trust it.

Advertising and consent in versions before 2.0.0

Older Google Play versions include Google Mobile Ads, Google User Messaging Platform, and Google Play Billing. Those versions request consent where required before initializing or loading ads and show Privacy options in App info when Google requires it. Use that control to review your choices. Declining personalized advertising is not a Premium purchase. Version 2.0.0 does not include these SDKs or load ads.

Google states that its Mobile Ads SDK automatically collects and shares IP address, product interactions such as app launches, taps and video views, diagnostic information such as launch time, hangs and energy use, and device or account identifiers including advertising ID and app set ID. Google uses this information for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention and encrypts it in transit using TLS. See Google's Mobile Ads data disclosure and privacy policy.

SeliaScan does not pass scanned pages, OCR text, PDFs, saved images, email defaults, or selected recipients to the advertising SDK. When ads are enabled, advertising may initialize or load on eligible screens after consent checks. Document scanning, cleanup, OCR, saving, and sharing continue to process content locally.

Previous Google Play purchases

Google Play Billing returns the monthly subscription or lifetime product identifier, purchase state, acknowledgement state, and purchase token needed to buy or restore Premium for the current Google Play account. SeliaScan does not receive payment-card details, log purchase tokens, or persist a local Premium entitlement. A confirmed product unlocks Document Actions and removes ads. A pending purchase grants nothing until Google Play confirms it. Monthly subscriptions renew until canceled in Google Play.

Manage subscriptions through Google Play. Uninstalling does not cancel a subscription. For purchase problems, contact majkeylab@gmail.com or use Google Play's refund process. Do not post order numbers publicly.

Permissions and information not requested

The app has no app account, first-party analytics, maintainer-operated document server, or generative-AI client. Only older versions contain advertising, consent, and Billing SDKs that use Internet access. Version 2.0.0 does not request Internet, contact access, local-network access, location, notifications, or broad legacy storage access. The scanner uses the Play services camera flow instead of requesting its own camera permission. Import and folder access use Android's system pickers.

Support correspondence

Private support email is used to answer and investigate your request. Correspondence is deleted within 90 days after a case closes. A case closes when resolved, or after 90 days waiting for your reply. Records needed for an unresolved refund, dispute, or legal preservation duty remain until the matter resolves or the applicable statutory period ends. You can request earlier deletion where applicable rights allow it.

Public issue reports on GitHub are visible to everyone under GitHub's privacy terms. Do not post private documents, credentials, or payment information. Contact the maintainer to request removal of personal information from content the maintainer controls.

A support request is not marketing consent. Support handling relies on responding to your request and legitimate interests in maintaining the app. Purchase support and required records may also involve contractual or legal obligations. This page has no contact form or mailing list.

Your data rights

Where GDPR applies, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability, and object where those rights apply. Contact the maintainer for information handled by the maintainer. Advertising consent can be withdrawn through the app's privacy options when available. Google's and GitHub's notices explain their processing, international transfers, and safeguards.

You can complain to your local supervisory authority. In Czechia this is the Office for Personal Data Protection. The maintainer does not profile you or run automated decisions on your documents.

This policy page

This static page adds no analytics, JavaScript, forms, advertising, tracking pixels, web fonts, cookies, or browser-storage access. No optional tracking is requested, so it has no cookie-consent banner. Its stylesheet loads from this same site. External links are not embedded services and open only when selected.

GitHub Pages hosts this page and may process ordinary network information, including IP addresses, for hosting and security under the GitHub privacy statement. SeliaScan adds no code exposing hosting logs to the maintainer.

Children and changes

SeliaScan is intended for an adult document workflow and is not directed to children under 18. It has no account or social features.
